Senior Ava Schmidt said volleyball is different from many other sports because players have the opportunity to reset and start fresh after each play. She believes maintaining a positive attitude and uplifting teammates is an important part of the game.
Schmidt also reflected on the seniors from last year's team who are no longer there to teach and guide the younger players during practices and games. She said she was grateful for the times those seniors were able to help guide her and her former teammates.
For Senior Mia Mittleider, one of the most important lessons is learning how to move forward after every play.
“To keep going and never give up, to have the next ball mentality, you have to let it go before you can keep going.”
Mittleider said the girls on the volleyball team are still learning and growing. She wants people to understand that the team shouldn't be expected to be perfect. Instead, she hopes the community will support the players as they continue improving and leveling up throughout the season.
Junior Avery Mosset is especially excited to play alongside her best friends this season. She said the team grows together every day, whether they are learning something new or working hard during practice.
According to Mosset, supporting and encouraging one another is an important part of the team's environment. She said the players cheer each other on and make sure their teammates feel supported.
Mosset also wanted to thank the Kidder County community for coming out and supporting the team in the past. She hopes the community will continue to come to games and cheer them on throughout the season.
As the team prepares for its first game, Sophomore Riley Sayler said she is feeling ready to begin the season and see how far the team can go.
Sayler emphasized the importance of trusting one another and recognizing the hard work they have already put in.
“To have trust in your teammates and acknowledge that you’ve worked very hard up to this point and it’s going to show.”
For Sayler, the support of the community is another important part of the season. She wants fans and students to know how grateful the team is for everyone who comes to their games and cheers them on.
“I’d like our community to know that the team is very grateful for them for cheering us on and coming to our games and supporting us!”
Sophomore Paitynn Bodvig feels ready for the upcoming volleyball season. She said the team has had to adjust after losing several influential players who provided leadership, advice and support, but the team has been making up for their absence through teamwork and dedication. The girls continue to uplift and encourage each other during practices, helping everyone feel more comfortable and confident.
The team’s main focus right now is improving their serve receive. Bodvig wants the community to know that the team will never quit. Even when their attitudes get down, they are determined to bounce back, focus on the next point and keep fighting for the next kill.
